Creating Your Drag Makeup Look

In starting your convincing drag makeup appearance, you have to know that there are important things to be concerned about besides just putting on the makeup. One of these things is hair removal. Yes, even a little bit of stubble will give away your look that you worked so hard to achieve. So, do what you can to create smooth and soft skin. Your face is your canvas so you want to make it as perfect as possible and make your drag look as convincing as you can.

Now false eyelashes are what you want for drag because they have a very dramatic look as compared to typical mascara. They also last a long time as you go out for a night on the town. So you want to buy quality false eyelashes rather than just getting mascara. You can certainly use both of them.

The next thing you want to know about is foundations and concealers. Buying orange hued lipstick and beard concealer is real important. They have an effect of evening out your skin and masking the tell tale hints of male facial hair that you normally have on your face. Lots of drag makeup artists use the beard concealer and most will agree that it is a must have for drag makeup.

You don’t want to use your fingers while applying the foundation. You can mess up and get an ugly looking breakout. Then you will have to start all over with makeup skincare to get to the point that you were already at. It’s best to take your time. Use caution. Have disposable sponges, clean brushes, and other tools you will find in the cosmetic store to really do a good job.

After the application of the concealer and the foundation, the next step is to apply eye makeup. If you search around, there are really dozens of nice looks and choosing the right one for your personal drag makeup is up to you.

The last step for you is perfecting you lips. Eight-hour lip stains are very popular. They allow you to skip using a lip liner and the look lasts longer. You can also use a lip plumper in some gorgeous colors.

i’m looking to dress in drag (i’m female–dragking)and want a mustache. my patriarch queer suggested mascara over my upper lip but i don’t know what kind to use. will this work? i don’t think i have enough hair over my upper lip.

Buy a fake one at a theater makeup store or try this …draw a mustache using spirit gum ( a special adhesive used to apply prosthetics). pat it with your finger until it becomes tacky then press a cotton ball over it. When you pull the cotton off there will be cotton residue over your lip. Go over this residue with mascara. By the way
the term DRAG is short for Dressed As Girl, so you’re actually going as a Drab(Dressed As Boy) King.

You should use simple brands from drugstores like Duane Reade, or WalMart, Target, k-mart, etc. Use eyeshadow (a colorful powder for the eyelids) on the eyes, and some mascara (this is a black paint for your eyelashes). Next, use some concealer (a skin coloured paint for the face) and lipstick (colorful paste for the lips) on the inside of your lips.

im so sick of it! i just want to look beautiful but i dont feel like i look pretty without makeup. i look tired and plain jane. i LOVEEE the way i look w/ makeup and i just dont see why people dont accept that fact, its super annoying. & they have to makeup comments like " drag queen" and my friend said i had problems bc i told her i feel insecure w/o makeup. my boyfriend HATES when i wear makeup. he says it makes me look less attracctive and more like a drag queen.
idk what to do. help!!!!
i use silvery eyeshadow. black eyeliner. black mascara. light pink lipgloss. concealer. lipliner. & a booster for my mascara.\

I’m just assuming that this is what you wear during the day to school?? The makeup your using is way too harsh, even for a night time look. Try more warm natural colors like shimmery golds and browns. If you wear more natural colors u will get a less harsh look and feel like your wearing makeup, but you wont be wearing loads. theres a really good palette from wet n’ wild that is perfect for natural makeup (i believe it’s called sandcastle?) I use this palette every day with a little pink blush, pink tinted lip balm, and mascara. I get compliments on how natural my makeup looks. Also if you do just a light wash of color in your eyelid you won’t look like a "drag queen". Good luck I hope I helped.

I know I’m good at makeup. I have a lot of makeup, I’m 15, and buy almost all of it.

My problem is I’m crazy with makeup. I’m into neon makeup, kind of like drag queen makeup.

well i would open up a little make-up artist business, you could do make-up for your friends and charge then a reasonable price, especially when prom or school dances comes around there will be manyyy girls looking to have their make-up done, so make sure your advertise yourself, post pictures up on your facebook or myspace of some of your looks, and do your friends make-up really nice so when people ask them who did they will say it was you, then take a cosmo class in high school if you school has it, and if it’s something you’re still into around senior year, enroll into a make-up artistry school. You can train to be the kind of artist that does the crazy make-up for runway model shows or photo shoots ), hope i helped

Ru Paul’s Drag Race Makeup Tut – Raven/10 Pan Concealer Palette Giveaway!

I’m back with another look inspired by one of my favorite shows – Ru Paul’s Drag Race. I saw the Country western episode and was so inspired by Raven’s hot look on the runway. This is part 1 of the tutorial where I use the 10 pan concealer palette to do an entire face of foundation – to conceal, highlight and contour. This is based on the drag queen style of makeup – it’s a heavy application method but you can always sheer it out and wear it for more natural use.

1:06 Scoop out your shade from the palette and apply to the cheeks, chin, and forehead – we’ll blend later
2:48 Scoop out a lighter shade from the palette and apply it to areas you want to highlight – under eyes, down center of nose, under contour of cheek, middle of chin, above lips
3:36 Scoop out darker shade and apply it to areas you want to contour –
temples, top of forehead, sides of nose, under cheeks, and jaw
4:20 – Take damp sponge and blend all the colors into each other using a
stippling method
6:17 Set with powder
6:37 Optional – apply sculpting and shaping powders to intensify highlight
and contour – this is more for a drag makeup look

I’m a man doing a drag performance for the first time in a few weeks and was wondering what i should buy as far as makeup, many say go with MAC or Chanel cause of the high pigment, quality, and durability but stores in my area don’t carry these (Walgreen, Walmart, CVS, Sally’s) and i don’t really wanna spend MAC/Chanel money at like Macy’s or something. what other brands out there have high pigment, quality and durability?

MAC.
Try Ebay. They have a ton of cheap MAC.
Also if you purchase MAC online via the maccosmetics website you get a certain % off your purchase.
If not try Maybelline or Revlon.

What are good makeup brands to use for drag?

I’m a man doing a drag performance for the first time in a few weeks and was wondering what i should buy as far as makeup, many say go with MAC or Chanel cause of the high pigment, quality, and durability but stores in my area don’t carry these (Walgreen, Walmart, CVS, Sally’s) and i don’t really wanna spend MAC/Chanel money at like Macy’s or something. what other brands out there have high pigment, quality and durability?

I’d go with costume/theatre make-up. As an actress I can tell you it won’t melt off the face because it is made to endure the hot theatre lights and sweat. To remove it you simply need to use soap and water. You can find it at any costume/hobby/party shop. A regular eye shadow pallet costs around 15 dollars but it comes with 25+ different colours and shades.

Do a little research on some theatre make-up brands or ask the worker. Good luck!

Yeah that does sound pretty freaky.

But…….

Who the HECK needs Drag Queen tips!? Geeze man, all you have to do is go to make-up stores like M.A.C or some pharmacy place for the cheaper stuff and pile the gunk on. Get all the cheesy bright colors. The most obnoxious colors you can find actually. Oh and LOTs of eyeliner and I’m guessing MAscara is optional?

If that doesn’t help, go to google images and type in Drag Queen

im fairly new to this whole scene and was wondering if any more experienced queens had some tips to hand down.. im looking to keep it kinda gothic, dark, and mysterious.. any tips or anything would be a really big help thanks.

I know nothing about makeup, but don’t they usually say "less is more"? In the case of drag queens I think the opposite is probably true: more is more.

This is a basic overview of how to apply drag makeup. There are seriously many, many, many ways to apply drag makeup. This would be my very basic way of painting my face for drag. Typically I would cover my brows, but I didn’t this time around.
